Restaurants

The Obsidian Grill Restaurant is located at McKenzie General Store. It's the place where adventurers can feast on what really fills the soul. The food is homemade, locally sourced and organic when possible. It is the best version of food you crave after rafting, hiking, biking or just enjoying the splendors of the Willamette National Forest. Grab-n-go items are available if you're in hurry, or for a picnic while on your adventure. Obsidian also has an amazing selection of regional wine and beer as well as local beverages by the glass and draft. Located in the beautiful Cascade Mountains at the gateway to the Willamette National Forest and the Three Sisters Wilderness area, the Caddisfly Resort has always been owned by the Lauer family who developed it in the 1950's. Now it is the second and third generation operating it.

All of the cottages have been modernized and have beautiful views of the river. Trees and native plants abound. A beach by the river is an excellent place for a picnic, bonfire, fishing, or just sitting and watching the river go by.

Weather is mild year round so the Caddisfly is an excellent place to come summer or winter. A great place for R&R.

St. Benedict is a Roman Catholic Retreat Center that makes its facilities available to groups to conduct their own retreats and gatherings year round. In order to fulfill its mission, the first priority for booking the Retreat Center is given to Catholic Church groups. Then, in descending order, "self-help" groups such as AA and the like; university and college sponsored organizations; non-affiliated, individual groups; commercial or business groups.

Belknap Resort & Hot Springs offers an 18-room Lodge and eight Cabins. RV sites start at $40 per night and Tent sites start at $35 per night.

Two swimming pools naturally fed with hot springs mineral water are kept at approximately 103 degrees. The main pool is open to the public at a rate of $10 for one hour. The 160-acre resort offers some of the most spectacular river views in the McKenzie Valley and approximately 80 acres of ornamental flower gardens.

Camp Yale is Belknap Hot Springs “sister” property. It is approximately 1 mile from Belknap, located just off of scenic Hwy. 242. Camp Yale has 16 RV sites all with full hookups and 8 modern Mountain Homes including on-site laundry and shower facilities. The park is surrounded by plush forest and meadows, offering spectacular views of the Cascade foothills and Frissell ridge. While staying at Camp Yale one has full access to Belknap’s pools and gardens.

Guest that stay in our mountain homes have to bring their own pools towels (we do rent for $2.00 each) and no housekeeping service during your stay.

Camping & Parks

Campgrounds in the area include McKenzie Bridge Campground, which is the closest to High Country Expeditions. Also click on the link for more Hiking, Biking, Climbing and Camping information in the area.

The Willamette National Forest has about 1,700 miles of trails. While many are in wilderness areas, a number of trails are low-elevation, easy-access trails for year-round hiking.
Probably the most popular, the McKenzie River Trail offers over 26 miles of hiking and mountain biking along lava fields, old growth forest, clear pools and waterfalls with camping along the way.
High Country Expeditions offers a shuttle service to and from the McKenzie River Trail starting at $30 per person, minimum two guests.
